Folio Society Books

Books That Are Works of Art

The Folio Society collection consists of the best, most stimulating books, old or new, in the English language.

From classics to unexpected gems, the choices are designed to inspire and stimulate readers.

The books are then subject to exacting editors who check and double-check the manuscripts to errors and confirm facts.

Every Folio book is different with unique handsome bindings to exquisite illustrations inside. Each volume is a delight to look at and hold.

Several of Folio Society books have won awards; most recently The Wind in the Willows which won the Grand Prix at the Printing World Awards, and was described by judges as "an example of near flawless production".

Binding design, typography, choice of paper and slipcase all depend upon the content and style of each individual book.

High standards of production are maintained so that all books are last for generations.

The Folio Society uses only the finest materials. The books are printed on acid free paper, while small craft printers and binderies use traditional techniques such as sewn bindings, edge gilding and gold-blocking.

A sturdy slipcase, the traditional covering for fine editions, protects each book.

How a book is illustrated depends absolutely upon its character; it might contain paintings from the Old Masters or famous illustrators, archival photography or new artwork commissioned from innovative artists.

These books are created by artists and craftsmen, be they printers, bookbinders or famous illustrators.

Depending on subject, you will find such time-honored techniques as lithography, engraving and etching reproducing exquisite sketches, watercolors, collages or paintings.

Most books are limited editions, adding to their value as collectibles.
