Collecting Antique Porcelain Can Be Affordable

Figurines were first crude clay, stone or wooden idols used for worship.

These antique artifacts are rare and are the heart of many peoples collections.

However, most people associate collectibles with the porcelain works of companies such as Hummel, Lladro and Royal Doulton.

The figurines pictured on this page, but these companies have been making figurines for quite a while and some of their older collectibles are quite valuable.

Hummel

Hummel came on the scene in 1935. The Hummel name is associated with figurines of cute children in playful poses, although they also made a series of angels, plates and miniatures.

The production of Hummel figurines ceased in 2007.

Current prices for Hummels range from under $100 to as much as $1500 for pieces such as "Christmas Delivery", mold 2014/III and "Little Fiddler". mold 2/III. This is an excellent Hummel Figurines Price Guide.

Lladro

Lladro, located in Spain, began producing porcelain figurines in the mid-50's.

Their theme was heavily influenced by 18th century art. In their collection you will find a lot of references to classic love scenes.

The companies has moved on to very ornate designs issued in limited editions of 3000 or less. Simpler designs, like the one pictured here are quite affordable. However, the top-of-the-line limited edition pieces, which are much more beautiful run into many thousands of dollars for even the newer pieces.

Royal Doulton

The Royal Doulton company started in 1815 in England. Its first products were fine stoneware and pottery. By 1885 the companies was winning awards for fine quality figurines, vases and other decorative pieces made in vibrant colors and utilizing a variety of under and on glaze enameling techniques.

In the 20th century the company was best know for its Art Deco pieces.

Because Royal Doulton tending to mass produce it works, they are reasonably priced - a lot of the older pieces are in the $500 to $800 range.
