Why Collect

There are probably as many reasons to collect as there are people who collect.

Some like to surround themselves in rare and very expensive beauty.

Some like to return to their youth and buy old comics, die cast cars or other toys. Now that they can afford it, why not.

Some want to replace the collections their moms threw away when they went to college.

Still others collect to remind themselves of found memories - we fall into that category.

What are Rare Treasures

How about a beer can collection? Maybe carefully preserved comic books. Or a reproduction of your favorite cars, boats or planes.

Just about anything can be collectable.

Beauty and value are, in most instances, in the eye of the beholder.

Rare Treasures will focus on the more popular collectibles.

Reasons for Collecting

I had an uncle, now deceased who would gamble a bit. Everytime he won, he would go to the nearest art gallery and buy a painting with his winnings - rather than give them back to the casino.

By the time he died he had two entire walls covered with original art - many probably by artists you never heard of. But he and my aunt had a collection to be proud of.

My wife and I decided that we would buy some art or craft wherever we traveled to.

We started small, but soon moved into paintings, sculpture, one of a kind jewelry and even a rocking chair from Mexico made of a rare wood and so carefully fitted together you can hardly see the joints.

We have collected some much that we have run out of wall space and now have some of our artwork in storage.

Whatever the reason, collecting can be fun and rewarding.
